Good aerial combat game, decent graphics, good sound effects (enjoyable, if slightly unrealistic, chatter between pilots!). The game is very easy to pick up and play, the controls are intelligent and the handling of the planes is very smooth. The scenarios are varied and the options add some depth but not much longevity to the gameplay. Good 'instant action' and multiplayer options but its the main campaign part of the game which will have you hooked.
In the game you are an American pilot. At the time of the Battle of Britain, America was neutral in the War and still trading with Germany, but 10 Americans did take part in the Battle along with 564 other nationalities to fight alongside the 2353 British pilots so the idea of a Yank in this battle is not as far fetched as it first seems. History lesson aside, the game is a welcome addition to the WWII themed games on the Playstation 2 and is very enjoyable. Maybe not enough here for the hardened flight sim affectionados but as a shoot em up in the skies its hard to beat and even harder to put down!

The explosions in this game are fantastic. Planes tear apart in the sky right in front of you. Propellors shoot of and some times men bail out and you see parachutes floating across the sky. The landscape graphics are pretty good too, but not as good as the air to air. The slow motion (taken from MAX PAYNE (bullet time)) mode makes sure you don't miss a minutes action. It's also good that you can command squadron to defend/attack your target/fight at will. This gives that little bit extra to the game instead of just you against an entire squadron etc.
Great game, definately worth buying.

If your wondering what that means, it means "Hey Captain! Your airplane's on fire!" in German. Anyway, SWON is the best pilot game I've ever played. And it's pretty much better then other games, like Airforce for PS1. And, SWON has some easy, and not easy missions. My favorite is when you have to shoot down weapon carrying warships. And everything looks real, like when you are near to death, your plane is black and smokey. Plus, you got angry Germans yelling stuff at you, and then you shoot them down with a couple of shots, and they go, "AHHH!!!!" Then they blow up. But the sucky part, is when you have ammo on your fighter plane. But I guess in WWII, they had ammo on planes. And LucasArts, I thought they only made Star Wars games, but they do better with this game. Overall, SWON is down right cool

The graphics in this game were awesome almost computer like. the detail of the landscapes as well as the airplanes were very realistic. the sound was the best i felt like i was really there. the machine guns and the flak were great. the sound of bullets hitting the planes and the explosions were awesome. even the whirring of the bombs as they fell to the target were realistic. gameplay was a little tough, but not completely some missions are hard, but others are a bit easier. there are ground missions and air to air missions. there are escort missions and support missions. the lifespan of your aircraft can be pretty far. as you go through the missions you get upgrades from different challenges, in which you can use to upgrade your planes( as you play through the game you collect different planes to fly ) the funfactor for this game would have to be a perfect 10 I lkove this game because you start at the beginning of WWII and play from the RAF to midway to D-DAY I have been waiting for a WWII game to come out and I am having the most fun with it . there are promotions, medals, all types of different airplanes, different senarios, and different weapons. it was a blast I hope they come out with another one.

It is a great pilot game it has many aspects that every great game should have. if you like games that dont get old after the first time you play it then this game is for you. This game has many real planes and weapons, this game even has alot of real events that happend durring World war 2.

If you are a fan of BF1942 and like to be in the skies most of the game or you want another game like Crimson Skies well this is it. Great Graphics, good sound effects, and high selections of planes (once you unlock them), but the only problem is the difficulty. All in all the game if fun.
