Wow this game is so fun!!! i love it!!! |
| Nicole from Toronto, Canada says (6/Jul/2004): |
Ok i just finished playing the 5th scenerio decisions decisions! and it was really fun and ive beaten it before but i never got to see any of the movie scenes cuz i was sold a defective game!!! but i got a new one and it works wonderfuly. anywho! i played as the reporter alyssa and oh my how she is my favorite she can run fast and she has that pushy attitude and dont take nothing from noone like that lame plumber david hes so quite its annoying and he doesnt even help when ur getting eaten by a zombie. i have to say that this resident evil game is way better, but it does take forever to load unless you have a hdd hooked up and walking through a door is such a pain cuz you know its gonna take like 15 seconds to get to the next room. walking through doors is like half the game because when u walk through one you run a little and what do you know your walking through another door so it does become a drag after a while. OOoOoh i love scary games and this game has a few moments that leave you on the edge of your seat but not many, but thats ok because what it lacks in the scare factor it makes up for in zombie killing!!! and other things like those nasty spiders they make me so scared im so nervous when im passing by them and there not even real!!! Yoko is so cute because shes so short and so kind and follows you around and stuff shes like a good dog whos loyal. The hearbeat when u walk into a room is a nice touch and a health indicator too because when ur health is low it beats faster, but the heartbeat can get annoying when other ppl are listening or watching. The music and sound for this game is really well done i think because you have all these big orchestra songs and stuff, and i dont know if there is a type of music that suits zombie killing and puzzle solving but i think the electric guitar and moody brass do wonders. The worst person you can play as is prolly that jim person who works in the subway becasue hes a slow runner and is VERY annoying and only has a coin that doesnt even do anything. I also like using cindy becasue she has a herb case where u can put all these different herbs and combine them so you have more room for weapons and stuff in your inventory. Being a dedicated resident evil fan since resident evil 3 came out, i have played and beaten every resident evil to date including all gun survivors, and when i heared that there was goin to be a game where you could have more freedom and once again be in Raccoon city i could not wait!!!! and friends i tell you i was not dissapointed, i absolutely love the graphics and scenery, controlling a charator is so much fun, and the music adds to the mood and makes u uneasy and stuff. wow i will stop writing now, buy this game because anyone who likes resident evil or doesn't will love this game

the game is great you get to use pipes cooperative play |

ALONE Online is the way to play. |
| Pakabola from St.Petersburg FL. USA says (19/Apr/2004): |
I've been playing REO for about 4 days now, online and off,and am really impressed by the outcome of this long awaited game.Offline is by far the hardest way to play, with hardly any help from your A.I teammates aside from them acting as decoys you find yourself, like old RE games, searching for keys and making short work of some zombies. Not too many zombies by far but a fair amount.Beating even the first scenario offline feels like a game in itself cause you've probably already put a bunch of time in retrying, and by the time you do get it beaten you've got a whole nother scenario to deal with ALONE.Not too much fun for long if your like me and strive to keep your walking treasure chests alive as long as possible.Offline there isn't anything different since the old RE's to keep you coming back for more...but....then there's online play. This is what RE was meant to feel like.Being alone....but not being sure if you're the last person walking or crawling around,THATS scary.Having a plan to stay together until the group of four comes across an elevator and not everybody knows what floor the final destination is on..and with no way to discuss it ingame alot of seperating happens. Then it gets crazy, you can scream out and be heard a couple of rooms away...and attract zombies...you can hide in a closet, but if you move the analog sticks you make bumping noises and...attract zombies...you can hide under a bed....and feel like a complete #< remove me > at $< remove me > at $ for hiding in a videogame. As far as graphics go this game is beautiful...perfect blend of mist and fog outside and eerie lighting inside.Along with in game cutscenes with mouths and faces that move, and some very snazzy water and fire effects.Among the eight playable characters in this game there is still an insane amount of unlockable characters and costumes including one called Mr.Gold...very mysterious. As a longtime RE fan I waited for this game since I fist heard about it and wasn't disappointed at all,if you don't have online capabilities don't buy the game yet...not being online will torture you.If ya do get it now...and when ya start playing Outbreak, help out the old guy Bob,he can't make it on his own and i'm tired of seeing people leave him behind for me to carry.I just dont have the heart to let him get eaten.

A Chi-Town Pro Gamer!!! |
| Carl Ford from Evanston, Illinois says (24/Jul/2004): |
I played previous Resident Evil games and I loved them.(Exept for Survivor, which was too easy and nearly impossible to die by a zombie)This one I have to say is the best yet for some reasons. First off, I like the fact that you get to play 8 different characters of your choosing and better yet, they each hae their ups and downs. For example I have to favorite people I like playing. One of them is David, the plumber. He got the skills to create his own and repair weapons with his duct tape. Like mixing pestiside spray and a lighter(Try it, its your own mini flamthrower) and also like a wooden pole with a kitchen knife to make a spear. Another charactor is Yoko, the shorty who could carry double of everyone else could. There is another challenging thing they added too. You start off levels after being contracted with the T-Virus and it slowly goes through you and you gotta beat the level before it takes you over.(During online playing, instead of dying after bieng killed by the virus, you will become "Zombified" and will be part of the walking dead too for a little bit and then die)There is alot of cool stuff like the melee weapons and stuff. THis game is great but to me there are some bad things though. To me I think that it is annoying that some Zombies dont finish you off after biting you. In a previous Resident Evil 2 the zombies do a finishing move after killing you which I thought was cool and gruesome. This game dont have it. THey got you sitting down on the floor awaiting for the virus to take you down. Lets see the graphics are good, but the loading time was a drag, everytime you go through a door. Its a really fun game and it makes me more brave to play it online with more people. Another is that I think the character Jim is cool and bad at the same time. The move playing dead is really affective but it increases the viral infection you have, plus he got his coin that proves to be futile. I wish they had a better story line like Resident Evil: Code Veronica X. If I didnt like this game then I wouldnt have given it an 8. Even with the downs on the game I think this game deserves an 8 still. This game is worth the money, but just make sure you get network hooked up so you could play online too.

This is possibly the best to date! |
| A gamer from Glens Falls says (5/Apr/2004): |
This game is declared as one of my top five PS2 games of all time. Since the other games came out on Gamecube I had little reason to play PS2. But this game got me totally addicted. The graphics obviously pushed PS2 to the limit, the sound is cool(Although even I admit this game wasn't trying that hard to be scary). The game even adds so many realistic elements such as the ability to hide in lockers and under a bed or table, or to board up doors(The whole time I feel like I'm playing a video game version of a Zombie movie). All the "Puzzles" have been removed which I think makes it a little more fun). I like how the controls are easier when using the anolog stick(Its kinda like the controls of Metal Gear Solid though you still have to hold down the O button to run.) And what else? Eight Playable characters, each with a unique special item(or with some, a weapon) that could depend(for some)on their career,Such as the Plumber David(My favorite character)who has a whole carrier of items such as a rench, folding knife, junk parts(for broken items),and duct tape(To assemble different items to make a weapon). Or if you are a character like Kevin the Police officer or Mark the security guard you get a special weapon.
The negative things i have to say about this game are that the Zombie difficulty is too high(In a bad way), the zombies always go down pretty easy, yet about 2 minutes later(probably less) they get up and keep coming at you. They even can follow you so don't think any room can be 100% safe.
The other negative thing is that you can only carry 4 things at a time(Not counting your special items, unless you're the character Yoko, who's special item is a knapsack allowing her to carry eight items instead). Although you do get to team up with two other characters and exchange items with them, it can be annoying since they sometimes they just stand there or try to be a hero and fight the Zombies.(You can direct them to "Go","Stay here", "Help", or tell them thanks).
I do think you should rent before buying since it could be too different for some, but otherwise this is a PS2 must-own.
P.S: I'm sorry, but I haven't tried the online yet, but I assume its fun.

Not Bad; Yet Not The Best In The Series |
| Travis says (7/Jul/2004): |
I have to say that I am a big fan of the Resident Evil games (acctually I have beat all of them except Dead Aim which was the worst of them all; but this game lacks what there is supposed to be in a Resident Evil game.
Fistly the graphics are pretty good; but they are not as lavish and detailed as the previous Resident Evils for the Gamecube (Resident Evil 1 andd 0). Secondly if you are playing online you can't use your key board to command other players or give them instructions; so i would only suggest that you play online if you have already beat it once or twice. Thirdly the game is way overpriced (50$ is alot for a game that you can beat in only an hour or two and has no hidden levels). Lastly; when you are playing single player mode your followers are hard to control. You can sit there and say help the they will reply no and walk off without you.
Although there are a few things that make this game sond less appealing it also has some good points to it. One of these things is that there are 8 new characters and how each of them has his/her own special abbility. Secondly there is still the element of suprise in this game like in the other Resident Evils. Another one is that there are more wepons and items to your disposal; for example: You can beat your enimies with a pipe or a broom. Also if you play online you can die and join the zombie ranks. Last but not least (my favorite thing about this game) you can replay this game again and again and never get board of it.
If you like games like this you should try out the Gamecube Resident Evils, The Silent Hill games (PS2), or Clock Tower 3.

After playing it for 3+ hours I think that... |
| Chris Uribe from USA says (5/Apr/2004): |
RE-O offline is practice for online. ONLINE is where the fun continues. I really like the fact that you get to play the game with four other REAL people, but I dont like that you dont get to know they are in fact PEOPLE. I wish I could at some point be able to communicate with them. As far as I know, this feature is not supported by RE-O, how sad, because this would add so much to the gameplay. Having voice communication would be an awesome update to the next version of this game, or would even be a great hard drive update. This would definatly encourage me to get a hdd.
I have yet to use RE-O with the hard drive(hdd), but it seems this is a feature that is not a "BIG DEAL" yet, but in future games, I believe that it will be. Not having the hdd gives you the feeling that you're not part of the exclusive PS2-hdd club, because you can't play online with players that have the hard drive. This is because YOU would slow THEM down with load times requred when playing the game off the standard DVD.
I really like the dark almost moist atmosphere this game has. You can almost smell and taste the blood that you would constantly need to wipe off, had you really been in the situations the game puts you in. Through the sound and the controller vibration, you can feel the zombies tearing out a chunk of your neck as you squeeze the wound to stop the blood from squirting out.
An AWESOME FEATURE IS the fact that you can help your friends out by giving them herbs IN GAME! If you need bullets, you can actually ask a friend for some!!!
All in all a fun game. Different. New. ONLINE!!!
8 STARS!!!

RE's Online Breakdown! |
| A gamer from Huntsville, USA says (27/Apr/2004): |
When you hear about Resident Evil being turned into an online game, your thinking that's the best news you've heard since MGS2 was coming out. But once you play it, you realize Capcom had the vision, the ideas, the style, they just don't collect it together so smoothly. The controls are really jacked up and not smooth (up makes players go down, right makes them go up, wait...what!?) the stories of the scenarios were stale (much of the story was left unanswered), and the weapons / enemies were pathetic. Yea, you get a pistol, a shotgun, chemicals, melee weapons, and in rare cases a gernade launcher, but it needed more variation. As for the enemies, you'd think they were more advanced (especially the newly designed Hunters) but their almost as restricted as they are in other RE titles. Don't get me wrong, I saw alot of good for this game too: the variation in characters, the replay value was the best I've seen in any game so far, plus it's fun playing with other fans of the series (except for the fact that you can't speak to them.) That's another deal, while I get the fact that they didn't allowed voice messaging online because the character's loose their personality, it was so hard trying to tell your partners what to do, like "stay where you are!" or "where do you find this piece?" I think in the next Outbreak title, they should allow voice chat. While their was good qualities for this game, it certainly had worse qualities because of it's many problems. Overall, the game can be fun...if you try really hard to overlook the bad traits.

one of the best games ive ever played |
| Ryan from cambridge, canada says (29/Jun/2004): |
I think that this game is really original compared to all the other resident evil games because you can use things other than guns to kill zombies like brooms and stuff, and i like the fact that there are other people with you cuz its more...erm better! I dont like that the game takes forever to load after every movie scene and walking through a door takes forever. The graphics are really good and detailed and the sound is meh ok i guess. Its a game that is fun to play at first but gets a little annoying after a while and you need to take a break off it for a while then play it again. I think that there should have been more than 5 scenerios because i wanted to see more of raccoon city and wanted to roam the streets a little more, the outbreak scenerio is the best for that. But the game play is really fun and once you are a character trying to survive it gets really addictive. I also like the fact that you can just pick up items and put them down rather than travelling to an item box. I didnt find the game all that hard though, because the puzzles were obvious. But the good thing about them is they dont have you travelling back and forth through the same setting but you actually move to different locations you never seen before. all in all i think this game is really well done!

Im a huge fan |
| michael from Minnesota, USA says (10/May/2004): |
If you like resident evil you will like this one. I have been a fan of resident evil sence the first one and i take pride in the fact that i have all the resident evils. Outbreak is a good game because of realism. ammo is spars so you need to save it. The grafics are near perfect. there is great characters in it and a whole bunch of unlockable items. In this resident evil for the first time there are levels in it. It needs alittle better story line and the loading between rooms is alittle to long but other then that the game is perfect. You can only hold 4 slots but with 2 other caracters with you thats 12 or even 16 if Yoko is with you. You realy need to play the game on normal or higher dificulty to get the full experience of runing out of ammo and having to fend for yourself. I think the game could be alittle more scary but maybe have some more confusing puzzles but then again there isn't going to be any big secrets in a bar or at a hotel. Guns are great in this game. there are many diferent melee weapons as well. Plus each caracter has a way to defend themselfs. All and All i think this game is great.
|
how would i know?!?!?! |
| COW from NY, USA says (24/Feb/2004): |
How could i rate this game you ask, well i played a beta copy of it which was only the online play but it was great. Graphics have greatly improved since the last resident evil and playing with other people is sure fun. there are some new things to do too, for example there isn't a set route so you can fight thruogh zombies to get to the key to a door but thats not good because ammo is as common as it used to be, you could kick down, ram down, shoot down, or beat down the door with a weapon but that takes some time and again ammo is limitted and weapons could break, or you could look for another route which there often is. Obvious routes are usuall ynot the best.
A new aspect is teamwork, there are up to 4 people online and if youy go solo you a screwed for a lack of better words. you can help wounded and give items up. the reason i only gave the game a nine is because i cant give 9.5 there is one thing i hope to see added to the actual game and that is voice chat because that would improve the gameplay and teamwork by at least 75 percent.

Doesnt feel like Resident Evil |
| Matt from Marquette, MI says (2/Apr/2004): |
Resident Evil was always a creepy slow moving RPG/action hybrid. You would always wander around running into people and revealing more of an intricate, but great plot. There weren't that many zombies, and the ones that they did throw in ussaully were there to make you jump or just add to the eerie feeling. They always gave you a real great feel for the people around you, and made you care what happened to them. In Outbreak its more of an action with a never ending supply of zombie that keep comming. Also people you are with stay with you and "help" out. They say set sayings that you can say also by pressing circle or square or something and the things ussaully don't make sense and get real repitishious. So basically if you like running blindly through huge hordes of invincible zombies with others in a doom style manner but without ammo then this game is for you. As for resident evil fans........this really isnt a resident evil game and definatly doesnt feel like one. So I guess the bottom line is rent it before you buy it.

The Best RE Game yet |
| Nick from Orem, Utah says (13/Apr/2004): |
The only thing i have to say is wow. This the Best Resident Evil game i have ever played with a few minor drawbacks. One thing that i noticed is that the game itself isnt all that gorey. For example if i shot a zombie with the shotgun it wouldnt get blown in half like in previous games. The voice acting has been greatly improved but is still a little choppy After only playing for an hour i was hooked on this game.I havent even goten to the online aspect of this game. The online play is simply the best out there, just the fact that u get to kill zombies with other people around the world. And if you die you become the undead yourslef wich is really cool. I hope that if they make Outbreak 2 it will be as gorey as the older games. If your a fan of resident evil you will really love outbreak, if you dont buy it at least rent it. Its that good. Well gotta go.

Best Resident Evil Game! |
| A gamer from Canada says (9/Aug/2004): |
Hey all! Im just writing to say that this game kicks serious ass!! The character choice is alot better than any of the other RE games, like Zero. Zero was fun, but i get kinda freaked when im all alone and stuff playing it. But when you play Outbreak online, it's so much fun to have people helping you through the level as well as trying on your own! I just wish their was more than 5 levels. My favourite level has to be Decisions, Decisions, or Outbreak. They are wicked awesome. lol, anyhoo, i give this game 9 stars out of 10 because it does have a few flaws. Like i said, their could be more levels, and it would be better if each character had their own unique story... instead of just George and Yoko. But i still love this game with a passion!! I finally bought it today, after renting it about 1000 times. lol. Yeah i really enjoyed this game.

What happened here? |
| Jan Paul from Las Piņas, Philippines says (27/Apr/2004): |
First of all, i like the Resident Evil Series. Even if I only play RE 2 and RE Dead Aim. I think the past Resident Evil Games are better yuou know that? There are many disadvantage in this game. First of all is the status screen. It's very annoying because you can only get and carry 4 items except for one character (YOKO). Second disadvantage is that the enemies can attack you while you want to heal character. Isn't that very annoying in the first place? What do you think? Third disadvantage is the weapons. Fourth is that you will have to go hard time to unlock the Infinite Ammo Free Mode on the collection for 50,000 points and you have to get all 100% completion on all the scenarios. I think RE Outbreak players can only have a 1% chance to get a 100% on all. Outbreak is better to play like if it is the past RE games. That's all!

Review!?!?! |
| A gamer from USA says (16/Apr/2004): |
This game is a good one even if u havn't played the series(me) it is still fun to kill zombies. Those bastards... It gets better online. But there is a couple of problems.. in some levels u don't even know how the zombies got there even if u went into the room and killed it and walk outside and stayed out there for 20 mns gaurding the door and went inside and a zombie is in there. Also it lacks communication, well i guess that is a good game so it doesn't spoil the game for newcommers. The graphics are ok and they seem to be better than Re1 that is good enough for me. The Gameplay is better. The lifespan of the game isn't that long cause of only 5 stages but still is fun to play.If u are not a fan of the series or never likes the Re series i still recomend u rent it to give it a try.

Kicking Ass! |
| Alfie Mussett from United Kingdom says (10/Dec/2004): |
This game is the best ever i liked it because you get to as 8 chracters the loading is a delay you to wait ages for it to load but so what the graphics are a nice touch the partner AI system works really well just one problem you say help your partner says No! and let's you get killed and i like Yoko she is so sweet and she can carry 8 items a load indeed! Another nice chracter is Cindy the sweety and healing her freinds without having to hand it over I am stuck on Below Freezing Point the voice isnt good not much to say this is the gruesomist game ever made if you walk past this in the shop you won't know what your missing

I love this game. I just bought it a week ago.... I'm stuck in the below freezing point and the hive place.... I love killing zombies (DIE!!!! LOL). My favorite character is Alyssa and Mark (I don't know about you guys...but I don't care) I hate Yoko (but I like the fact that you can store up to 8 items because of her stupid backpack that becomes handy). The NPCs suck they won't listen so I let them die sometimes.... I'm always asking for help and they don't appear (I tried calling them like 50 times and they listened 5 times out of 50!!!). (ohh and pplz I love role playing ^.^)

Awesome but a few problems... |
| A gamer from NJ,USA says (24/Jun/2004): |
I really love this game because its challenging, fun, and you can also communcatite with yer teammates. The graphics are awesome! The greatest thing about this game is the Online mode. You can play with people and i mean real people. The only problems are... when u open a door you have to wait for a while but there is a heartbeat added to it (it may be annoying to others), the voices of the poeple are not that great, they should make the game go faster, and they should try improving the game a little more and then it'll be a great game to rent or to buy.
