the good the very good and the horribly bad. | | Matt from Richmond VA USA says (15/Apr/2005): | The omega strain is a great game in the fact that there are sooo many guns.If your good enough to get them.there is always something new to find, and the levels are awsome. The downside is the enemy AI is terrible. In the levels were you have to sneek up on an enemy and break or cut his neck you could be rubing his sholders and he wouldn't see you.alse there aim is ...well just plain bad.you stand in front of a guy and he misses.over and over again.until you kill him or he brings more people.Other than that its a great game.OOOOOOOOH the beautiful weapons.
| The best 3rd person you will ever play. | | Tonko from England says (10/Feb/2005): | Lets start with the bad stuff,
The map is total crap, you cant see much if any, and the enemy can shoot you while you look at it, so never press select!
There are some points where you feel pissed of because enemys can re-appear, but not all the time.
Now the GOOD (Amazing) stuff.
There are soo many guns, more than the age y0ou will live too, about 100-120.
Loads of rewards, from new guns to more health to being able to snap necks!
The AI is amazing, hard sometimes (bosses) and easy other times, the background and enviroment is really well detailed and made, and its almost real!
reflections in the tiled floor, lights and fire all look good.
This is the first on where you arnt Gabe, as you design your own charicter, you can be either male or female.
The online is amazing, workin in teams of four, or if you dont like that kind of thing you can be all on your lonesome doing it yourself!
Here is a good tip the 3 best guns on the game are, the AU-300 Mod-R, the M16K (there is one hidded in every level and you can only unlock this through the online sessions.) and finaly the M4 carbine! for a good pistol use the Mark 23, use the SD version if you have it ( must obtain highest rank).
There that is all i have to say.
Its amazing, and i guarantee it will be the best 3rd person shoot em up you ever played.
| THIS GAME ROCKS (wish more codes tho) | | A gamer from Oklahoma City says (15/Jun/2004): | The game rocks and i wish there were more codes with health cheats. IF you have any more cheats please email them to me so i can get more health. Thanks.
| It costs $49.99 and I should have paid $24.99 | | Kurt from phoenix, AZ, USA says (28/May/2004): | First and foremost, I have played every other Siphon Filter in the series and I must say that this is by far the worst and best.
The best can be summed up by all the weapons you "potentially" can get, the many missions that are added during gameplay, the great design of each level.
Yes the weapons are awesome if you can get them (read below). The missions keep on coming and are exciting except...(read below). The design concepts are great...there are many doors / rooftops for sniping / hidden items / plenty of flack jackets.
The worst can be summed up by spontaneous regeneration of bad guys, the absolute most horrible and useless lime green map, and the extremely short time frame for timed missions. The kicker?...you have to do every mission, even hidden, in order to unlock the weapons.
Yes, you must complete all missions, even hidden missions, and succeed completing the timed missions (some which seem you must save the world in 2 minutes...yeah right) as well. Completing these missions gives you "badges" that increase your rank and give you options to better weapons. The timed missions are by far the most difficult and I don't want to spend 100 hours on this game so I wont be completing some of the timed missions and of course I won't be getting the ribbons to unlock good weapons (or the bonus missions)
The map is 99.9% useless in the way that you can't make out levels / staircases / tunnels because they all blend in together like a splosh of green gatorade.
If you die guys are waiting for you when you regenerate and they immediately take some off power off your flack jacket..even enough of them and your health too.
Bad guys seem to regenerate out of thin air and creep up behind you...even when you go back to see where they come from it seems like they dropped out of the sky.
Don't mean to whine about the game too much. It is pretty good but extremely frustrating and could have been thought out a bit better.
Who tested the game and gave it a go ahead as is?????
| An opinion of a newbe to the Syphon Filter world & Omega Strain | | Keno Brown of the Harbor from Gig Harbor,WA. says (22/May/2004): | Syphon Filter was great and bad at the same time. The bad well that could a few things, like the lamest map I've ever had the misfortune to play with, theres no real nav points you can't scroll with it, and when you are use'n it the bad guys can still blast on you and kill your < remove me > at ss in a flash.
Lets talk about the multiplayer now.Its cool better then I thought it would be, a plus is when you beat a level on line you open the next on your 1 player missions now thats cool I guess. I like the team work emphasis they put in the multiplayer like needen two players to climb up trucks or ledges to get c-4 or other cool stuff.I just wish you could gain access to those things on your own.
We'll then lets sum it up its a fun mutiplayer game but it is no SOCOMII so if you are hopen it is its not ! Syphon filter is a different game a good one over all, it has plenty of cool levels and missions. I am looking forward to the next Syphon Filter game.
| Omega Strained, but not broken. | | James A. Stewart Gnosis Emmy award winning design from Salt Lake City, Utah says (10/May/2004): | I have followed the siphon filter series all the way to this most recent release and I am happy enough with it to write a few words.
I will give you the bad before the good.
Character control is awkward, but you get the hang of it soon
enough. The aiming is good and bad at the same time.
Some targets seem to dodge your bullets like geronimo
and some ask for them like candy. Enemies disappear and
then reappear on seldom occaisons, but once is enough.
The map. Is it helpful? NO!, it's green, that's it.
Design a map for it's single purpose, to find yourself and to find them.
The map gets a ZERO in design.
Outnumbered by the enemies due to over abundant respawning.
They do empty out and stop eventually, but keep those bullets ample.
Some will call this a challenge, some will call it unfair.
You will respawn yourself in the line of fire from time to time,
hmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Last, but not least THE GOOD IN THE GAME!
Big levels and tons of guns.
In fact there's more guns than you can imagine.
Great cut scenes, with realistic dialogue.
Siphon Filter has always had grand cut scenes.
Wonderful modeling and most textures hang well.
Replay is strong in single-player mode, I am sure it's even more
powerful with the online capabilities.
The sound is quite good on all premises:
The AI respond well to your interaction.
The enviroments seem atmospheric and representitive
of the real world.
The radio voices are loud and clear.
The musical scores of the game sound great and complimentry,
though the original Siphon Filter theme music was the best.
Final Thought:
I am enjoying Omega Strain
and will continue to do so for some time.
I can see the work that was put into this game
and it's shortcomings.
Nothing is perfect, but this game comes close enough
to be truly enjoyed.
Long live Gabe and cohorts.
