Horror lives on | | shaun&sher from London,England says (15/Sep/2006): | Well the good news is that I survived with my head firmly attached to my shoulders. The bad news is that the game is completed.
Resident Evil has done what so many other game have tried to do before and failed miserably...apart from a few exceptions(viewtiful joe2, madden NFL to name a few)...and that is simply to better the original.
Gone are the days where the zombies aimlessly walk around towards you. Gone are the days where the background blurs as you try to enjoy the view. Instead here are the intelligent A.I villagers after your blood and who will duck and weave their way to you as they walk past a vista of sights in the background that previously were rendered badly. Its hard enough to watch the lumbering horde as it is to admire the spectacular scenery.
This is what I enjoyed about Resident Evil4 so much is that it instills a sense of fear and beauty in you so seemlessly and effortlessly that it becomes a marvel to play.
You get to admire the underground caverns, the crumbling castles, the empty graveyards, the haunted houses. And then once you have managed to evade the hordes of villagers intent on hacking you up, you find yourself in a house with a broken down door that you've just kicked in order to gain entry.
What do you do?
Grab the neares table and block the door? Stand inside and wait for the horde to walk in through the front door? Walk up the stairs and meet the "intelligent" villagers placing ladders on the windows and climbing in through the windows?
The choices are yours.
And when you've managed to eliminate the horde of villagers you are faced with complex yet simple puzzles that are strangely welcome this time round in games(that don't detract from the enjoyment of this game) as your quest takes you through to each boss in each chapter.
The bosses?
Get better. Badder. Nastier. Bigger.
This is simply a game you must play. Rent it. Buy it. The amount of stunning gameplay you can muster, places this game title from capcom head and shoulders above many other titles.
This is easily one of my top 5 games. In fact its one of my top 5 games of all time.
This is a must have title for all gamers.
