The San Andreas Review | | Sergio from LA says (23/Mar/2006): | Even thought San Andreas came out more then one year ago it is still the most talked about game. All GTA's are good, but the tow that were really good are GTA3 and San Andreas. It is really awesome to do all that stuff. GTA 4 should just better but when will it come out? Things that could be improved are: Graphis, of course to make it more violentic u should be able to jack a commercial plane and crash it on to a building. There could also be other things such as the ability lo kidnapp people. But THERE SHOULD BE NO KIDS OR ANIMALS Involved maybe dogs but thats it. There is already birds but who cares. San Andreas is simply awesome specialy there the first version with the hot coffe. Please post the HOT COFFE CHEAT!!!!!!!!!

| Almost a reality? | | Allan from England says (2/May/2005): | first off, i'd like to congradulate Rockstar for producing such a fantastic game, what more could a gamer want? there's cars, girls, money, shops, motorways, bikes, freaky woods and fields with ghosts and stuff, 'heatwave' graphics, gangs, music, dancing, properties, weapons, missions, girlfriends, sex, huge map, police and a hell of alot more! But like every game, there's always something that lets it down...for example, when you kill someone, wouldn't their body stay there until disposal like reality? pedestrians should have cell phones so they can call police,fire brigade etc. instead of them just magically come along. you should be able to have more interaction options, like kiss people, invite them to your house, dance with them anywhere, get their number, have a detailed conversation...missons could be a little more varied, not just the same old CJ poppin a few ppl, like gatecrashing some party, or investigating the ghosts and stuff in the woods, they could make it really creepy and realistic...if you launch a rocket at a building it wouldn't just leave a black singe, right? you should be able to have jobs too when your not on the kill, like lifeguards, cooks, musicians, rappers, stuntman etc. and why do characters do that hand moving thing when they're talking, it doesn't fit...and sometimes their lips move before they even speak...just little things like this can have a big effect on a gamers opinion... but it's still one of the greatest, maybe they could add more islands; be allowed to enter EVERY building and not just the odd few; they should have other stats you can raise like dancing, rapping, sport skills like basketball etc. they could slow down the time a bit, maybe even stick in what day it is, you could have bills the more you buy, more shops like bakeries, pet-shops (a little rotweiler running along side CJ lol)fishing shops, better clothes shops etc. they should put in a fuel metre for vehicles so u can top them up at a garage if ur running low...and when you kill evry1 in the gym for a laugh, go out, then come back in, they magically reappear, fit as anything,is that realistic? maybe they could like put new people in or shut it down and reopen it somewhere else in town.
overall, the things i would like to see in GTA's next masterpiece:
.More detailed charachters (physically and personally)
.Calmer weather (storm one minute and red hot the next?)
.More music and less annoying presenters.
.Better buildings eg. bakeries, dance schools.
.More stat options eg. fishing, photogrpahy, basketball.
.Little pets for indoors and out.
.More detailed car modification.
.Less damn taxis!
.Slower time, maybe days added to the game.
.Creepier scenery in woods and places like that, with creepy plots and missions connected to them.
.People have cell-phones.
.More islands.

everything is exellent and the graphics were an especially good performance.the game is so realistic that it really looks like you are in it running about hi-jacking cars just for the sake of it. graphics:10 of 10
the sound is very realistic and the game has records from real northen america. sound:10 of 10
the pictures and sights of the game is a exact copy of the real thing itself. for instance, the golden gate bridge is san fransico is called the gant bridge in the game. the cities: los santos, san fiero and las venturas are really los angeleas,san francisco and las vegas! pictures:10 of 10.
in san fiero there is a performance garage called wheel arch angels adn it is the besst performance shop of san andreas. they have ultimate car body kits and there is only one of them in san andreas. of course there are other performance shops around but this one is the best. i just wish there were more paint job choices. There is a whole range of cars. there are two types of taxis- a taxi and a cabbi that can hold 4 passengers instead of 2. there is the super GT, the ZR-350, the elegy, the banshee(dodge viper), the bullet, the turismo(the best of them all) and the uranus are all the sporty type of cars and can all be tuned up at a perfomance shop. there is the very posh stretch limosine that can be found at nightime or dawn driving about. There are extra features to the game like there are cheats to be typed in if you could find any. One of the best features is a two player mode where you could act as another character and if you want to...kiss if you like. it is really fun as one person drives and another shoots with a whole range of guns. two people can then have a good time too! the cops have real life sayings for extra fun. you can change CJ's(carl johnson - you)clothes, eat and you can go in planes, boats, cars, and alot more!
definetly for the racing, action and adventure type of people and is certianly recomended to buy! it may cost all your allowence but it is worth every penny indeed! i say buy now. if you need any more info please contact me via e-mail. thanks alot for reading my review and i hope it was some help to you.

When i tried to play GTA Vice City last night it was all blurry and the graphics sucked. This game is definetly better than the other 4 GTA games that we have been blessed with.I think this game should be a little less time-consuming, it takes for ever to through 2% of the game, if you're looking for a quick 'n' fun game, keep looking. Dont use any cheats or the game will slowly eat away at your stats(Muscle, sex appeal, weapon skill ect.).There is a dildo in the bathroom of the police station in Pershing Square, but dont pull out a gun while in the police station because you will get two stars in a police inhabited environment, so watch out.

Frame rate issues, missions to hard blah blah...........I've even seen some complaining about the fact you can play pool "Why play pool in a game, you need to go and play real pool etc" I guess some folk just can't be pleased. I've been playing games since the days of Commodore 16's and spectrums.
But every now and again you get a game that makes you stand back and applaud the creators, here's one of them : GTA San Andreas.
Those of you that complain about the graphics quality - Since when do good graphics make a game great ? Those of you that complain about sound - What other game gives you radio stations with hours of music ?
We play games to relax and get away from the sometimes crap reality, or we play games because they are fun and enjoyable, often addictive. I get home from work and watch the Simpsons because it makes me laugh. I play games because they are enjoyable like say watching a film.
The missions aren't too hard, they aren't too easy. They're enough to be a challenge. Rockstar dont have to make the missions so hard it takes an hour or two to complete just to increase the length of the game. Cos the games so frikkin huge it'll take you half a year to fully complete anyway. I've played 44 hours+ since I started playing back in October. an hour here and there. I have just completed all but a few odd missions. Now I have all the extras to do like photos and jumps.
Its Incredible as far as I am concerned.
Yeah Halo 2 is great. The graphics are great, etc etc. But then the creators have concentrated on graphics etc because the game engine is pretty linear. They don't have to pump attention into a landscape where anything goes, they dont have to generate random events like an aeroplane crashing in the street followed by ambulances and fire engines rushing to the scene.
Just enjoy the game where possibilities are verging on endless and stop crying about all the things that dont really matter.
I've seen plenty of games in my time with wonderful graphics, but half the time the game is either tiny or woeful.
Just ENJOY !! Its just Great Fun !! Thats all.

I decided to do more of "The Truth"'s missions and got lost in back o beyond on the way to the farm, i found a car driving down a hill, i thought it was just a glitch, but when i went to the door there was nobody driving the car. It was cool cause i finally found that "ghost car" people have been talking about.
This is what I love about this game, it's Huge and there could be anything out there in the woods, the graphics have also been improved and the forests and fields look so real, i cant wait for gta4 coming out in '06 on PS3. this game has the best music in it too, and the missions and the storylines are better than vice city's and liberty city's. the missions are harder than the other gta games but funner and cooler. i love the ghetto missions the best. my fav character beside carl johnson is Ceaser, hes cool. i love riding on the quad bike in shady creeks, one of the things i like to do is explore the woods and the deserts. this game rocks, buy it now. its sweet.

| Great Game, but less than expected | | Richard from Bristol R.I. says (11/Jan/2005): | I really like the Grand Theft Auto series, but I feel this one slightly lacks the fortitude the other titles maintain. The use of color, the new setting, and complex nature will challenge even the best of gamers. The fun factor is high, but it can get frustrating when you have to find locations in a car, and pull a drive by. I am giving this title a nine out of ten because of the effort Rock Star games gave. Their work is indeed awesome! Titles like this will keep them going for many years to come. Great effort, I am already looking foreward to the next possible installment!

- City design
Let me make my introduction here:
Glad you're still alive, huh? The first days you start playing this you may say something like that, and you're right, Computer Entertainment is getting better and better, so you may smile cause you're here alive, bought this game and you're watching how things goin'. I got to welcome you cause this time Rockstar shows up in front of us with another "real work", it's just like that baby we always get better in the things we love to do. It's hard to describe how good the city design is in this game, from the city lights to the greenery, the streets, the sea, the rivers and the sky, everything looks so good! And it is a massive world of three cities full of beauty! That's enough to respect this game, since Refractions... err... i mean, Reflections wasn't capable of showing to us what they should, i now consider Rockstar's SA as the leader in this department. Many people complain about the frame rate, trust me, it isn't really that bad like they say, you will play normally, you may/can start blowing cars all over the place and the framerate won't get that bad, i never noticed about a so bad framerate. Also, many people complain about things too "orange" in cities like Los Santos and Las Venturas, i gotta say that's one of the things making this game smooth! To tell the truth in Las Venturas the orange is a bit overused, and also i wonder if at 20:00 the sky is still orange in some american cities, but anyway, the game's smooth that way, the sun, the natural environments and the cities have a very nice design, i love every place, specially at night.
- Explore It, Live it!
The free camera, i really appreciate games with a right analog stick free camera, ask somebody if they never used the right analog to smell their cars after getting a new great tune up and amazing paint job. In this game there are three default camera positions and the amazing multi-cinematic cam, not even Driv3r (only one default camera position), not even True Crime comes up with this (only 3 default camera positions, but the camera goes far when you're driving). There's even a camera to take pics in the game anywhere, the first PS2 game that i bought with this feature. (Try to get used to the cinematic cam and try to put the police in your tail using it, not even Driv3r's film editor will be that fun).
! Bad Things !
- Character models
A lot of improvement has been made from GTA VC to GTA SA, improvement worth me staying with this game. But character models still aren't that good, it's a drama how most of the female characters look, even your girlfriends (You will cry during a successful eating date...). I only found two average female models in this game, the one on the cloth shops, and that one with the ponytail on the streets, at least the male characters have a really better/good design, like CJ, Ryder, Big Smoke, Cesar, etc, but a game without cool people design isn't worth too much time, specially without cool women design, True Crime is still the leader on this, so i'd say True Crime's still the most "coolooking".
- What time is it?
If there's one thing that ruins a bit the beauty of San Andreas is how fast the time goes, with so many time and weather variations if the time went a bit more slow that could be the ultimate cool deal. Let me be more specific, if you have True Crime, Snoop's free roam has a very decent flow of time, that's how SA's time and days should flow.

- General Sound
If you ask me to talk about how good the sound is in this game, you're asking me to start talking about many things, from the dispacher messages when using a police car/bike to the deep underwater waves, it's a massive world, and the sound is great, nothing else. Some people don't like SA because of "swearing". Well, i don't think there's too much swearing, in some ghetto cultures girls call each others ******* and guys call each other *************, that's not a bad thing at all, i don't mind that.
! Bad Things !
- What's not crackin'?
The previous GTA games had a better radio selection, in GTA3 we had great radio stations, even pure trance! During GTA VC we could listen to many cool radios too, like Radio Espantoso. Now here in SA the selection is a bit poor, there's too much hip hop. There's SF-UR but still! SF-UR brings some cool house and disco, and there are many other stations for rock, soul(R&B), country, etc. It isn't that bad, but the previous GTA games had a better radio selection. There are some bad things related to the sound that i really don't like: the girl from Radio X and the ultra annoying things CJ says when you make an accident.

- Traffic Experience
You will laugh many times watching things happening on the streets, specially with the traffic. For example, the roads connecting cities are more dangerous, people drives fast there, normally you'll get the chance to watch an accident, or you'll see some bike fallen in the road. If you want you can create your own chances, if you know what i mean... hey, i'm not telling you to do anything, right?
- Else
GTA San Andreas is a massive game full of fun and with a very complex gameplay, so, i need to tell you one thing: Have fun! And don't forget to learn how to play poker and blackjack, you may need that tomorrow...
! Bad Things !
- Driving physics
First, the cars seem to be made of plastic, pay attention to how badly the car will damage if you simply "touch" anything that's in front of your car. It's not real time damage, the way your car wrecks deppends on how many times you "touch" something, that was supposed to be how many times you make a real accident. One day i found myself inside a burning car after making contact with a wall using the rear part of the vehicle for 15 times in less than 7m. Comedy isn't it? Now, the other big problem is car height, the reason for almost every other driving physics problems in this game.
- Flying physics
Since all my life i never touched a so bad flight simulator, i already had lots of flight simulator games, from PC to real consoles, but this one killed it. The planes, most of them seem to be remote controlled toys, they don't feel like real planes. Now the really annoying thing is how you use fire from those things, there isn't a targeting feature for flying machines so you'll relay on the nose of your plane/helicopter, simply dumb.
- Difficulty
San Andreas isn't hard, but after reading my "Story & Sense" part you'll realise what i'm trying to say, i'm trying to say that most of GTA SA's missions really lack on sense, so, it seems weird but many missions don't really have a "difficulty". Most of the missions that appear to be hard, after being done you'll laugh, because of the critical lack of sense. I don't know if adding difficulty levels will make missions better in the future.

- Interactivity
In this game, the cities "feel alive", people talking to each other, to you, things happening, reactions from the people, etc. One day i was doing a big mess, destroying everything, 5 stars, and i heard an old man a bit far away saying very loud and clear: -We love you!
- Characters
The problem here is simple, many gamemakers today try to sell games by trying to make cool characters/personalities and fail miserably, like Neversoft, Yu Suzuki, Tecmo, etc (and it's amazing how many people likes characters with so much lack of coolness, maybe cause dressing up/posing is their only friggin salvation), but Rockstar is successful in this matter. No annoying voices, no annoying characters, people really acting cool, and that's the way to go.
- Auto
There's too much thing to drive, from planes to cars (and you can mod them, most of them, and you can use NOS too), bikes and boats, and even some odd/misc vehicles. You'll meet tanks, world war planes, etc, and they shoot! If you want, well, maybe you can go around with a BMX, or maybe a Mountain Bike, no?
- Radio Stations
There's no game out there capable of facing this kind of feature GTA has too, to tell the truth, Driv3r, True Crime and Getaway can't face almost every feature/things GTA has. True Crime's selection of musics were good but GTA radio stations are more, much more, let me tell you you'll hear some of the funniest talks/quotes ever, there's plenty of music, house, rock, hip hop, man even reggae! Don't even talk about Driv3r, were you'll listen to 30 sec. MIDI loops everytime until you're kind enough to shut down the music.
- Things to make and do
Yeah, go get that girlfriend to really love you, get some territories and make your gang really respectable on the streets, practice in some schools, BUY things (clothes, properties, cars, etc), additional missions and quests (how about finding cars to import and export? Wanna learn martial arts? Find secrets! Well, if you feel the need for speed why don't you enter some racing tournament? No? Well... then, let me see, go dance! Yeah, why not? Oh, and after that? Listen, why don't you make the main missions too?)
! Bad Things !
- Story & Sense
In the beginnin it's all for your homies and moms, but then the thing just keeps going on over and over, and you'll wonder if you're a public servant, the almighty public servant who goes here and there blowing and destroying everything. The cutscenes are cool and stuff, but they can't hide the fact that almost every cutscene in the game is another excuse for one more senseless mission. In almost every missions you'll have to blow/destroy something or kill someone for other people's interests, you always seem to be the "guy with no life" in GTA when it comes to missions and i don't know why. Let's just think right, you are the owner of some great asset property like Wang Cars, it gives money daily, so why on Earth do you still have to be doing dirty works for other people? That's all pointless. But here in SA and on almost every GTA game it's just like that, you're always the guy who has to do the "dirty work", that blows the realism to hell. In the back of the cover it says something like "Go for a journey here in San Andreas until you take control of the streets", let me tell you that's just bull****, unless we're talking about the "Gang Feature". When progressing trough the story, you don't feel like you're "going up", becoming a real someone, that's what's missing, you don't get from street dawg to a real mafia boss, and THAT's what's missing, you just feel like you're always a street dawg, sometimes you even feel like a thugged busta, a wannabe gangsta playing rambo. After getting everything you want, like the ability to use planes, etc, you'll start losing interest for doing the main missions. To tell the truth, i rather watch Rockstar changin the main objectives/point of the GTA series, they need to try to do something really new, cause it's disappointin how they make an amazing virtual world and after all you only have to be a poor version of Rambo around it. But what's worst, most of the gamemakers today are afraid/not capable of trying new things, maybe they just think that what's funny here is just blowing cars all over the place and running to nowhere while the police is in your tail, my Rockstar friends need to change their ideas, the only cool thing about life isn't just gunfire, we need to find those things and make them shine, or else we'll be complaining about where they are and find ourselves using guns. It's not by anyhow how EA made TheSims, it was a great attempt and therefore successful, now i gotta ask you something, how many amazing memories TheSims brought to many people in this planet? You realize and answer. There's all the hype about GTA around many fanboys etc, but the whole "Vruum vruum, bang bang" deal make me forget/don't mind about this game for a while.
- Entertainment
In this game we should play with a girl, i would give as double as the double of the attention that i give to this game if we could play with a girl, a girl like Fongling from Resident Evil Dead Aim would do, slim and with latex, those ones that you can hear while walking with their tight leather boots, i wouldn't care if we go Rambo that way, i would wake up at 5 o'clock just to wonder around and appreciate the game with the girl, because the cities are amazing. Cause i wonder why we still start playing a game like this and they force us to play as one guy only. Today, games like this shouldn't be like that anymore, we're tired of playing a game and not feeling like us, or like people in our minds/creativity, we should be able to create the characters on almost every game, or at least to "really change" their appearance, that's the big key for the lifespan, at least a well created woman is worth wondering with all the time, i just don't see the point of always wondering around with a guy, no matter if his name is CJ, Tommy or Teinner. WWE Smackdown is one of my favourite games because of that, there's the custom reality, "our little world", and the flow, for hours of playing in many days of life. (I have all Smackdowns, from 1 to 5, and i never hesitate to go buy the next Smackdowns coming out as soon as possible). I will only buy the next GTA if i can play with a nice/cool woman.

This is what i would like to see in the next GTA games:
. Diving moves (Like True Crime's)
. Playable characters
. A Big Cemetery (And meet the undead there)
. Underwater (Be able to do stuff underwater, missions based underwater)
. More Interactivity (Lay cool on a bed, sit, etc, keys for the lifespan)
. Game difficulty levels
. Fuel/Oil & Wash Cars
. Errors: Shouldn't punch women when stealing cars, only throw them away ; People shouldn't use horns at night, like in real life ; The mini games like dancing need a better engine, so that we can watch what's happening and really have fun, and not just stick at the controls ; Shouldn't display the machine guns when using a vehicle, the player looks stupid driving that way ; For most of the time i only see the Rockstar constellation in the sky, if there were more stars that would be some additional boost for the smoothness of the game, etc.

What are you waiting for? Go buy it! Now! If you're worried about other games like this, i have all of them, and this is the current classification:
1. GTA San Andreas - 9.3 (Nothing like another amazing virtual world in your home).
2. GTA 3 - 9.0 (Buy the PC version. I'm NOT a GTA fanboy, i'm just being fair, this game is the best among the rest of the games. I prefer True Crime, so, True Crime is the best for me. But if we look at the overall main features etc, GTA 3 wins).
3. True Crime Streets of L.A. - 8.1 (This is the most 'coolooking').
4. Driv3r (Dead lifespan, and our dear Tanner won't smile).
5. GTA Vice City (It's fun, but the body structure of the persons and car architecture isn't great at all, i had it for a long time and then exchanged it).
6. TheGetaway (The sense/story, the gameplay and the features are the worst ever, don't even dare to rent).
Now you know what you need to know, and i hope Rockstar gets better at women design, that's the key for a good designer. I hope they can impress me in the future.

The mission's are too hard...If they were too easy you'd be bitching about that. I'd rather them be challenging, then simple as $#< remove me > at !. The gun's are awesome...Straight-up...This game has come alot since it started, and it's only getting better. If you dont like this game, there's something wrong with your brain! The map is huge, and I love that. The pedestrians (although they piss me off at times) are cool. The car's are 10 times better. Graphic's are 10 times better. Music is 10 times better. I don't see what you little bitches are whining about.

Every morning I wake up I have to go play the game for like 2 hrs STRAIGHT!!! The guns are so so so cool if u get the game u will love it so much. i dont feel like typeing any more cause i want to go eat my Cinumon Bubble Rings. BUT I will say this If u get the game and u get a girlfriend u can give her flowers and a mystery sex item.....starts with a D.... soooooooo get the game man just trust me u'll love it man even one of my teachers from my school Bemis JR High got the game. So if a teacher gets it (and its a girl teacher) then u should for sure get it u will NOT be disappointed.

It has the free-roaming feel like its' predesessors, but expands on it to three whole CITIES! This gives loads of exploration to add to the fun. Also, the options of stat improving give it major points. Another plus is the whole fact of YOU CAN SWIM! All of these are good, however there are still some of the technical glitches, like the slow loading of some obsticles and the somewhat fluxuating AI, that could bog down the game. However, that doesn't mean they'll be noticed as you pump 5 rounds of buckshot into an unexpected ped and run around in a car with only a t-shirt on. Overall, this game is a rare gem that all should have. My score is a ten.

I mean i am like addicted to it. Yea ok the sound of a couple of guns is not that great BUT, the rest sound cool. The 9mm, desert eagle, AK47, dont sound so great. I cant belive that Hallo 2 is better. If the Canadian thinks GTA:VC and GTA:3 are better, dude what are you smokin? Plus the faggit is from Canada,"eh" dont belive Canadians DUMB!!! | big disappointment.... | | A gamer from Canada says (15/Dec/2004): | I thought this was going to be the best game ever, I thought Vice City and GTA3 were awesome and I thought this game was going to be 10 times as fun as the other games, but I was wrong, the missions are very hard, when you have to catch up with Sweet, Smoke, and Ryder on the first mission, and you have to race to Carl's house, and a Ballas gang member kills you easily! Its so hard to make carl ride on the bike cause he always falls off when he hits something!
Sound: Crap, the guns sound like a ironing board creaking.
Gameplay: CJ? His head is very deformed and the grapics are bad. There are tons of glitches where my feet sink into the ground and they don't come up.
Guns: What is this? GI Joe land? Give us some REAL guns, not a 9mm and a freakin uzi. Give us mac 10, rocket launcher and land mines.
Missions: This is stupid, the missions are too hard! im 14 ive been gaming for 5 years. I'm only on "wrong side of the tracks" mission and I can't get through it! my cousin has this game and says the last mission "End of the line..." is the hardest mission in all GTA games and takes like 2 hours to beat to kill all of the Vagos and Ballas. and is super super hard cause once you die you have to start all over again! what a load of crap!
Overall: I can't stand this game! its too hard and the peds flame me and shoot me! And the guns suck! what ever happend to the guns on gta3 and vice??? why these stupid guns?
Don't buy this game, if you want to see for yourself you better rent it don't just buy it cause you might be disapointed like me..
